KAPPA DELTA EPSILON was founded in Washington, D.C. on March 25, 1933. Representatives from six colleges and universities -- Allegheny College, Birmingham Southern College, Cornell University, Emory University, Illinois State University, and Temple University -- met to found a national organization to emphasize and expand professional education. It was originally an all-girl sorority, but is now co-educational and international. When KAPPA DELTA EPSILON celebrated its Golden Anniversary at its founding site in Washington, D.C. in 1983, three Greek Alphabets were needed for chapter names. The number of initiates had expanded to an international membership of more than 35,000. A more complete history may be found at http://www.aug.edu/kde/historypage.html
